    @JonathanFisher You forgot to add AMISOM includes Burundian troops.They have been there since day one together with the Ugandans. They have also made a lot of sacrifices for this effort . (75-100 killed in one day @ Daynile Oct/2011) and possibly are the country with the highest losses so far.

    Hi Terra, thanks for your comment and, yes, I should perhaps have mentioned the Burundian contribution – as well as those made by other African states including Djibouti. Burundi has not, however, had the same degree of influence over political developments in Somalia as Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia though and this is probably the main reason I didn’t explore their role in this post.
