    Sustainable development in 1987: “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.

    Sustainable development in 2011: “the expansion of the substantive freedoms of people today while making reasonable efforts to avoid seriously compromising those of future generations”.

    Oh, for those idealistic ’80s. We sure have gotten wishy-washy in the past 24 years.
